A chair made from coppiced hazel - an abundant but underused renewable material.
This collection is made from locally coppiced hazel, whichI harvest by hand. Coppicing is a woodland management method that provides a renewablesupply of wood.
As well as being made from sustainable materials, thiscollection is designed to be visually lightweight and unobtrusive resulting inpieces that have aesthetic longevity.
The name of each piece is from the vocabulary used bytraditional woodmen, many words from which are now almost lost.
This chair weighs only 1.7kgs, and strong enough to easily seat a 120kgperson. Its unobtrusive form allows it to ease into almost any interior, traditional or contemporary, and its visible craftsmanship and varied texturesprovide detailing that prolongs the aesthetic interest upon closer inspection.
